What's Going On

After launching this newsletter at the end of April, what began as a deeply personal reflection has grown into a platform telling dozens of stories from Americans across the political spectrum—former Democrats and Republicans, independents, veterans, artists, educators, entrepreneurs, immigrants, and community leaders—who no longer feel represented by the parties or movements they once called home. A few of those stories can be found below.

The momentum has been remarkable: shortly after sharing his story with us, entrepreneur Daniel Saynt announced his candidacy for New York City Council against DSA-backed candidate Darializa Avilés, becoming one of several individuals I’ve interviewed who are channeling frustration into positive action.

I created this platform after realizing I no longer recognized the political home I had occupied for most of my life. As a Brazilian immigrant, the granddaughter of four Holocaust survivors, a lifelong Democrat, and a proud Zionist raising a young Jewish daughter in Brooklyn, I found myself feeling politically—and increasingly socially—displaced, especially in the aftermath of October 7.

Yesterday's horrific extremist hate crime in New York City only reinforced why these conversations matter. There is no doubt that this kind of violence is fueled by months of inflammatory rhetoric from political leaders who have failed to confront antisemitism with moral clarity, and it’s no coincidence that such horrific violence took place less than 48 hours after Mayor Mamdani’s video, which was filled with incitement.
